NIN & BVN: Important Facts You Should Know!

While responding to the fact regarding the NIN (national identification number) generated using the Bank Verification Number (BVN) which can only be used after it has been updated at any of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC enrollment center, a twitter user, called the attention of the commission to perceived form of extortion, saying that;

“Just imagine, we are trying to reduce crowd and you are telling people to go and register! Mind you it’s now 5k to register for NIMC just to be clear oh.”

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC responded and emphasized that enrollment is free. The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC frowns at all forms of extortion and that cases can be reported to via email through actu@nimc.gov.ng or by calling 08158691214 or 08157691071.

Another Twitter user complained that he had initially registered at National Identity Management Commission, NIMC in 2013 but had to go and update his phone number in Kaduna, and he had to leave after 3 hours because of the crowd. He said, he wasn’t attended to, meanwhile, another person told him, and he had been there for 4 days. He concluded that he had to leave due to the fear of COVID, how else can I update my phone number? He queried.

National Identity Management Commission, NIMC responded that although he still needs to visit any of the enrolment centers and request for this service and that the service attracts a fee of N500 payable via Remita.
