Ikeja Electric Increase Meter Price & Tariff

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has issued a public notice, notifying the general public of the increment in meter price.

The letter obtainable on their social media handle carries a heading which states; Review of Meter Price. It reads further, “This is to notify all Ikeja Electricity customers that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved an upward review of meter prices to reflect the recent changes in foreign exchange rate by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)”.

The adjusted prices include the single phase meter which is now N44, 896.16, together with a 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) of N3, 367.21. The total cost to now acquire the single phase meter is N48, 263.37.

Also affected is the Three Phase meter price which is now N82, 855.19, together with a 7.5% value Added Tax (VAT) of N6, 214.14, to make a total amount of N86, 069.33.

According to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, the new prices have already taken effect since the start of June 2020. This is reported to be a directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Some customers who received their bill for the month of May 2020 yesterday also notice an upward review of the tariff charged on the electricity that they consumed.

Oga CEO Correspondent gathered exclusively that, some aggrieved customers went to a nearby office around Abule-Egba area of Lagos to protest the One Hundred Percent (100%) increment.

The customers were barred from entry into the office premises of the distribution company branch.

We, however, want our readers to note that, investigations are ongoing to uncover the effect of this decision on well-meaning Nigerians. We hope that the outcome of our report will not claim FOREX to be the reason why Nigerians should pay more for electricity that is not provided.
