The size of the portable coronavirus test kit is about the size of a credit card and requires no additional equipment to operate.
Abbott Laboratories also confirms that the COVID 19 test can be conducted using a less invasive nasal swab than traditional lab tests.
The company is expected to ship this test kit in tens of millions this September, which could enable over 50 million tests to be done any moment from October.
The test, BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card, could be used to check that people participating in larger gatherings, such as those returning to schools or workplaces, do not have COVID-19 and could help in the reopening of schools.
Abbott laboratories created a downloadable app that people who have taken the test could present before entering venues to show that they are COVID-19 free.
