COVID 19 test kit production has been approved and it costs just a meagre sum of $5, which if converted to our Nigeria naira is approximately One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty-Six Naira, Forty-Five Kobo (N1, 936.45k).
The world economic forum shared this good news on its twitter handle, saying, “A 15-minutes test for COVID 19 has just been approved.
OgaCEO later found out that, the new coronavirus ’19 test kit is an innovation of a company in the United States of America, Abbott Laboratories. And that the company, won the approval for a COVID 19 portable antigen test that delivers results in just 15 minutes.
The size of the portable coronavirus test kit is about the size of a credit card and requires no additional equipment to operate.
Abbott Laboratories also confirms that the COVID 19 test can be conducted using a less invasive nasal swab than traditional lab tests.
The company is expected to ship this test kit in tens of millions this September, which could enable over 50 million tests to be done any moment from October.
The test, BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card, could be used to check that people participating in larger gatherings, such as those returning to schools or workplaces, do not have COVID-19 and could help in the reopening of schools.
Abbott laboratories created a downloadable app that people who have taken the test could present before entering venues to show that they are COVID-19 free.
Antigen tests are cheaper and faster than molecular diagnostic tests but somewhat more likely to fail to identify positive cases of the virus than lab based diagnostics tests.
Abbott laboratories is a well-known medical scientific organization and has since March gotten the United States authorization of nothing less than five other coronavirus tests, including one called the ID Now that can deliver results within minutes and is being used at the White House.
